When you’re Adam Kinglsey, and you and your MIT chums have created an empire, you take. You don’t give.
Adam applies this philosophy to every aspect of his life. His relationships last as long as it takes him to find sexual release, and his location of choice tends to be the backseat of his Escalade. When he crosses paths with Kathryn Delcour, Adam meets someone new in his orbit: someone completely unimpressed with him.
The stories of his sexual prowess are legion, and Kathryn has heard them. Her speciality, as it happens, is in tantric sex. She tells Adam that she takes “cocky rich boys like you” and teaches them how to make love, as opposed to get their release and call it a day. At first insulted, Adam quickly becomes intrigued. He begins to pursue her with the same spirit of acquisition that brought him professional success.
For her part, Kathryn clearly is drawn to Adam. She allows him to take her on a date, but that date turns into something neither expected when an attempt is made on Adam’s life. He needs to hide out in her apartment for the night, which gives the two the opportunity to get to know each other.
And by “get to know each other,” I mean just what you think I mean.
But Kathryn is not one to easily succumb, so it’s fun to watch Adam chase after her. All the while, there is this whole death threat thing that hangs over the two.
If you know nothing about tantra, this is a good chance to learn you something. Kathryn introduces Adam to her calling, and we get to see what a tantric session is all about. It comes down to this: touch. Adam is man accustomed to having his private parts touched and that’s about it, so this does not come easily to him.
Is the book good? It’s okay. The headboard rockin’ scorches, so that is a big draw for those of us who enjoy reading that sort of thing. Adam is not wholly believable, but he’s likable enough. His dogged pursuit of Kathryn seems so out of character that it does not quite ring true. Fortunately, like I said, he’s a likable kind of guy, and if tantra can effect the sort of whole personality change that it does for Adam, we all might want to give it a whirl.
Kathryn is the more enjoyable of the two, but again, she falls a bit too quickly. When we meet her, she is snarky, confident, and enjoys getting one over on Adam. Let’s just say that it doesn’t take long for her to want him as much as he wants her.
There is a Part 2 coming up, and you get a sense of where that will head. At least it isn’t a trilogy.
